0. Boot from CD/USK-key/another partition
1. Use dd to take disk image of the filesystem
2. Move image to anothe machine
3. Install testdisk to this machine
4. Recover data

the ardour master meter is by default a K20, not a digital-peak meter, but a loudness meter.

Q : What does the peak hold show in contrast to the visual meter?
R : the numeric display above is digital peak (as per K-meter specs)

  the bar-graph is mostly "loudness as percieved by humans"
  is "message" related.    digital-peak is "medium" related
  medium: ie don't clip, don't exceeded the physical limits
